North Wales nurse rotas

Betsi Cadwaladr health board has engaged expensive consultants to come up with a brainwave to save money:  Extend nurses' shifts by an extra half hour without pay.

The proposal, currently out to consultation, would mean a nurse currently working a 12 hrs 30 minute shift (with half an hour unpaid break) expected to work the same shift but only get paid for 11 hrs 30 minutes.

Currently many nurses take their breaks on their wards or unit and are effectively on call in an emergency. This is purely down to the goodwill of hard-working staff and this vindictive approach threatens to undermine nursing morale and goodwill totally.

The changes will effectively mean full-time nurses having to work an extra shift a month to make up the unpaid hours.

Our ward has had this in place since the start of 2019. Had no say in the matter, just happend as a trail and then never went back. Nurses never left on time as it was….now they’re working at least an extra hour each shift, as well as not managing to get full breaks!

Rediculous idea. Many nurses are overworked as it is and this will just escalate the problems.. they don’t get paid enough or have enough help from any boards or hierarchy

I think it’s awful having unpaid break, especially only having 30min break in a 12 hour shift is wrong u don’t have a chance to grab anything sometimes.

This is utter disgrace, majority of staff already wotk longer hours without pay on goodwill alone. To expect it is beyond.Ir would be better if you cut back on senior management and have more respect for nurses. I wonder how many of the senior management aknolwedge staff already working longer hours on goodwill as they put patients first, or even aware of how many nurses made it to work during winter when snow had fallen, through walking to work or driving in hazardous conditions.

I was a nurse for 42 years and appreciate their hard work and dedication .Its a pity Betsi Cadwallader managers didnt.would they work longer hours without pay.i doubt it very much

Make the chief executive and staff at high levels work the shifts the nurses work.

With no breaks and minimum staff then see who works the hardest.
