No to 1680 houses off Cefn Rd/Holt Rd

The Welsh Labour Government have insisted on excessive levels of housing development in Wrecsam. Despite local Councillors twice voting against these plans, developers took the council to court and Councillors were threatend with jail if they failed to adopt the plan. The plan, known as the LDP,  was subequently adopted in December 2023. Councillors have launched a legal challenge which is due to be heard in the coming months.

This plan includes a super estate of 1680 houses in total off the Cefn Rd/Holt Rd. An application for 600 houses has already been submitted by Barratt and Bloor homes, with the Harworth group beginning consultation on plans for an additional 900 houses. Additional applications may also be submitted.

We the undersigned do not support plans for a super estate of 1680 houses off Cefn rd/Holt rd. We object for the following reasons:

  • Loss of Green fields
  • Lack of affordability
  • No local need as population is static/slightly declining
  • Pressure on local GP's
  • Pressure on the Maelor hospital
  • Lack of local Dentists
  • Local highway at capacity already
  • Pressure on local schools
  • General pressure on stretched local infrastrucure such as water, sewage etc
  • Flood risk

This will lead to a huge loss of green spaces and farm land. Many people walk on this land on a daily basis, for exercise, health and wellbeing. Not to mention the catastrophic effect this development will have upon local wildlife. I’m not buying the whole ‘wildlife corridors’ thing either – this level of noisy, destructive and intrusive development, and the influx of humans and traffic, will absolutely drive most species away. The whole project is hugely depressing. We do not have the infrastructure, either locally, or as a city, to deal with this huge increase of households. Even if we did, I’d still say no to this – we need green fields, green spaces. Once these are destroyed and built on, we will never get them back. The character of Bryn Estyn lane as a peaceful place where local people can walk will be gone forever. On this basis, I totally oppose these plans.

We desperately need affordable housing for all the people already in Wrexham. Those on the council waiting list, first time buyers and those paying huge rents in Wrexham. Our schools, hospital, dentists are already in crisis and we can’t cope with more people moving into the area.

Far to many homes taking over an area which I and my family use 365 days a year. Dog walking everyday + many enjoy full walks with family in GREEN open spaces. Surly becoming a “city” doesn’t automatically mean we have to fill our spaces of enjoyment with “Lego brick houses”.

We don’t need more houses when we can’t accommodate the existing population!

Look at all the comments on our wrexham Facebook page – people living there can’t access doctors, dentists etc.

The council are definitely cutting back on their service to the community too (even though they pretend they arent).

You’ll be turning wrexham into the bloody slums!!!!!!!!!
