No to 1680 houses off Cefn Rd/Holt Rd

The Welsh Labour Government have insisted on excessive levels of housing development in Wrecsam. Despite local Councillors twice voting against these plans, developers took the council to court and Councillors were threatend with jail if they failed to adopt the plan. The plan, known as the LDP,  was subequently adopted in December 2023. Councillors have launched a legal challenge which is due to be heard in the coming months.

This plan includes a super estate of 1680 houses in total off the Cefn Rd/Holt Rd. An application for 600 houses has already been submitted by Barratt and Bloor homes, with the Harworth group beginning consultation on plans for an additional 900 houses. Additional applications may also be submitted.

We the undersigned do not support plans for a super estate of 1680 houses off Cefn rd/Holt rd. We object for the following reasons:

  • Loss of Green fields
  • Lack of affordability
  • No local need as population is static/slightly declining
  • Pressure on local GP's
  • Pressure on the Maelor hospital
  • Lack of local Dentists
  • Local highway at capacity already
  • Pressure on local schools
  • General pressure on stretched local infrastrucure such as water, sewage etc
  • Flood risk

We need more rental accommodation to address the huge problem in the rental market. Sell to Clwyd Alyn, Wales and West or council could build properties

The Welsh government needs to sort out the infrastructure before imposing housing quotas on any county in Wales.

Get the basics in place first.

This is a beautiful area, next to a beautiful house and a wonderful garden that does so much good for others. The services in the Wrexham area, eg doctors surgeries, hospitals, schools, need investment before more houses are built. There are far too many new building estates already, hardly any of the houses will be affordable for those people who most need housing.

Wrexham does not have enough doctors, nurses, hospital places, dentists, teachers, school places, mental health, social workers, care for the elderly and the infrastructure us struggling now. With so many new residences all the above will be at breaking point.

Cefnroad/holt road is already congested plus almost 1700 new families needing to access oversubscribed local services – new housing estates need investment in local services first and foremost yet schools & health services have been cut to the core. Please reduce number of houses and ensure services are sufficiently funded

The amount of houses being pushed on Wrexham is ridiculous these 1600 + of Cefn Road in addition to 1500 of Ruthin road/berse Road which has high flood levels will put added pressure on the infrastructure of an already struggling town. Gp surgery’s, Wrexham maelor hospital especially A&E, schools etc Traffic congestion are already bursting at the seams, also we’ll there maybe a handful of so called affordable housing the majority are big 3 and 4 bedroom with prices starting over £250,000 so not affordable for locals. This town is being forced into a commuter town for cities in England Chester Liverpool etc.
